How About a Giveaway?

We put up our Christmas decorations early this year - normally everything goes up the weekend after Thanksgiving. In fact I usually abide by a very strict no Christmas before Thanksgiving rule. However, this year, we're hosting Thanksgiving and we decided it might be festive to have the house decorated already. We don't usually have guests over the Christmas holidays and we thought it would be fun to share the decorations with someone! Also, Harper heard us talking about putting up the Christmas decorations and there was pretty much no turning back.

Pulling out the Christmas decorations also means pulling out the books and movies and music that are part of our holiday tradition. This year I decided to import my Christmas CDs (of which there are, um, many) into iTunes so I can have a Christmas mix on the iPod. Importing the Chrismtas CDs got me thinking that it would be fun to give away a Christmas mix. So I'm offering a Christmas CD package - one grown-up CD and one for the kiddos, should you want a kiddo version. I will attempt to customize the grown-up CD for the winner, if the winner is willing to answer some questions about his/her taste in holiday music.

This is not necessarily a pay-it-forward contest, but there are plenty of opportunities to share during the holiday season so you could certainly pay-it-forward in spirit anyway. To enter just leave a comment on this post. If you don't know what to say how about letting me know what your favorite Christmas song is and if there is any holiday tune that you absolutely cannot stand (even if it is only a specific version of one song).

I'll leave this open until noon, December 5. I'm thinking I could choose a winner and get CDs out by December 10.

I love the song, "Mary, Did you know?" (especially the Kenny Rogers/Wynonna version). Our family also knows that it is officially the Christmas season when we've heard "I Want a Hippopatomus for Christmas" on the radio. There's one song I really don't like that is played on Lite 99.9 about a little girl and a bird, maybe a nightengale. I don't know what it's called, but it is one I could do without hearing every year.

Not sure what my favorite is... but "Grandma Got Runover By A Reindeer" always makes me chuckle...

I am EXCITED to enter this contest! SO let's see, for the more religious Christmas song, I like "O Holy Night" (especially Jewel's rendition) and for the fun stuff, I like "It's Christmas, Baby Please Come Home" -U2's version. But I love Christmas tunes so really, anything goes!

Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas.

But I also love What Child Is This, because it reminds me of when Calum was born, a teeny newborn right at Christmas. I still choke up when I hear it. CHEESY but TRUE.

I would also like to enter the contest. If I win feel free to copy the Faith Hill CD if you got it for your birthday. Hope you did!!!

I also like "Mary Did You Know" and I heard another new song the other day "What a Strange Way to Save the World" (a song from Joseph's perspective). The song I least like is Barbara Streisand's version of "Jingle Bells." The season goes fast enough without singing that one at warp speed.

I like nothing better than O Holy Night sung by a choir. Ugh...gives me chills. My favorite rendition ever was Christmas on Campus one year at UD...all of us crammed in the old gym and that HUGE choir bolted it out. Loved it.

I like lots of different songs though...just depends on my mood.

And, Erin, I think it's so sweet that you tear up. I think getting cheesy comes with the mother territory.

i have to say i really like "Baby It's cold outside"...Rat Pack version (Dean Martin maybe?) not any of the new junk they try to put out. i also really love Josh Groban...but I pretty much like all traditional Christmas music. We never listened to a lot of it growing up so I like the old stuff!

PS...i can't believe how much Michael looks like a McCourt! It's amazing.

I LOVE 'I Want a Hippopotamus For Christmas'. It cracks me up, and the kids and I bellow along to it in the car every time it comes on.

I can't stand two songs - The Christmas Shoes and the new one Dear Mr. Jesus about child abuse. I mean, there are people dying of cancer and there is child abuse, but I definitely don't want to sing a SONG about it! Especially one so obviously fake and smarmy.

I love the classic Christmas songs of "Sleigh Ride" and "Winter Wonderland." I just had a little boy last week, and I listen to the Christmas radio station and sing Christmas songs to him when I nursing. So far, Grady seems like the same songs as his Mom!

oooh- Christmas music! The best part of the season for me. My favorite the last few years has been the entire soundtrack of "Child of the Promise". It's kinda like a musical of the story of Jesus birth- but a fairly decent one! I also love LITTLE DRUMMER BOY. I like the 'classic' versions, but love discovering new ones each year too. SO NICE of you to give away a custom jam packed CD! Good luck narrowing it down...

Shew!! I got here in time!

I'm not a huge crier, but I cry every single time I hear the Hallelujah chorus performed by a choir. I think it's the standing.

There are a few that get on my nerves...the only one I can think of at the moment is "do you hear what I hear?"
