We've been relatively busy lately. My favorite new discovery is toddler story time at our local library. It is wonderfully appropriate for toddlers. We sing songs, then the kids eat a snack (i.e. goldfish crackers) while a short book is read (the snack keeps them sitting still - brilliant!), then they do a craft. Yes, there is a craft involved in toddler story time. For us, it's mostly Mommy does the craft while Harper bangs on the table with a gluestick, but there's also crayons and she does attempt to color things with them. I think it's a good type of activity for her to be exposed to, something we might not do at home. The first craft was a toilet paper tube bird, which could "fly" on a string attached to a door knob. Harper wanted to play with it when we got home and more or less tore it apart. I didn't mind, that meant story time provided about twenty minutes of bonus entertainment.
This week we went to our second story time and our friends Dana and Andrea were there, too. That was exciting. (It's really nice to start to feel a part of the "mommy" community in our area. I always knew there was one, it was just hard to get in touch with sometimes.) This week we had songs, a story, a snack, a craft and an Easter Egg hunt! It was very exciting. Harper still hasn't figured out that there are things to eat in her eggs, guess I should show her before the goldfish get stale! It was great practice for the big Easter Egg hunt at Great Grandma and Great Grandpa's house in Wisconsin. Maybe I'll re-hide her library eggs around the house and we can really beef up Harper's egg-hunting skills.
