Anticipation

Preschool resumes in just under two weeks and though teachers everywhere are groaning and dreading going back to the classroom (Well you know some of them are!), the people in this house are practically giddy with excitement.

As I am not a fan of answering incessant repetative questions I decided it was time for a visual representation for Harper so she would know exactly how many days until school started. Or at least something I can refer her to so she can count for herself. An old-school paper chain seemed like a good answer.

Harper cut the strips after I drew heavy black lines on some construction paper. Then she helped me decide on a color pattern and handed me the strips which I wrote on and then stapled (or, as Harper said, "stampled") together. We now have a lovely count down and as a bonus we worked on cutting, patterns, and counting.

Posting this reminds me that I never wrote the post I intended about how much Harper loved school last year - oops. I guess it's probably not too late as long as I do it before school starts again.

So tell me, are people in your house getting ready to go back to school? And how do they/you feel about it?

Genius!

My daughter, going into 4th, is excited. I think my son, going into K, is excited too, but not as much b/c he doesn't really know what it will be like. I, personally, am VERY excited!!! Buh-bye!

This uncle is not so excited for the craziness of school to start up again. After 18 years in the classroom, I'm dreading my last semester. I am thrilled to see Harper's excitement and know that my wonderful sister is going to get a little bit of a break.

Kels, you are inspirational - can you please post ALL of your creative ideas?

No one in this house is going back to school this year, but I'm thinking about how this time NEXT year Katy COULD be going to preschool. Which is crazy. And I don't know if I'll send her. Or where we will live. Or what we'll be doing. AH!

Since we homeschool, the start of our school year is a little different than normal. However, Jacob is really looking forward to it and can't wait to use his new school supplies.

I love your old-school paper chain! Great idea!

We've opted not to send Elaina to preschool until next year (for many reasons), but this child is so anxious to start school. Our district has recently built a brand new school campus and is hosting a dedication / tour this coming weekend. I am really looking forward to taking Elaina on a walk through and seeing the layout for myself.

Good Lord does Harper look tall in that picture!!??!

OMG. That child is SO your daughter. Seriously. You two are going to have so much fun organizing new school supplies every August.

School doesn't start in this part of the world until after Labor Day, and pre-schools start even after that...so we still have about a month until the first day. Andrew knows he goes in September, which is the next month after August, but we haven't been dwelling on it. He's nervous about having new teachers. Andrew=aversion to change. Hmmm, wonder where he gets that from. ;) But he always does WONDERFULLY...as long as we don't build it up too much.

I love the chain idea! We did something similar when we had to "season" our fish tank for a week before actually adding a fish. (which apparently we seasoned a bit too well...because it's still alive 18 months later).

How many days a week will Harper be going?

While I really like your paper chain idea for Harper, I personally will not be making one for myself. Sigh...the end of summer. I love teaching and can't wait to see all of my students again, but summer truly is the best time of the year.

I love paper chains!

At our house, I say to the older two kids in a fake, exaggerated, Santa-Claus-is-coming voice, "It's almost SCHOOL TIME!! Aren't you SO EXCITED???" and they groan.

so creative. I would totally copy, if only Hayes had any idea what I was talking about when I mention pre K.
