Pardon the Interruption

Please excuse me while I get really, really, excited about the Green Bay Packers. . .

I will have to use some stock footage in this post because, horror of horrors, Harper does not have any Packer clothes that fit her this year. (Someone in Wisconsin, please remedy! What? You say I can find that sort of thing on the Internet? I'll get right on it.)

I think it is about time to have her Packer jersey onesie from last year bronzed because it bears the most wonderful number in football. A moment of reverence please, for the great #4:

It seems like just yesterday I was watching the Packers on Sunday afternoon, instead of doing, I don't know, a book report, and this new kid, this Brett Favre guy, came in and changed the fate of the Packers and their fans. He was. . . good! Do you know what was happening in my life then? I was in high school. Here we are, fifteen years later, and he has led the Packers to their first 4-0 start since 1998.

The Packers are 4-0.

4-0.

Unbelievable.

And they are starting to get some credit for being a good football team this year, which makes me feel happy, and weirdly proud; as though I have anything to do with it. No one expects them to be undefeated, each weekend now feels like waiting for the other shoe to drop, but it didn't drop today.

And not only did the Packers win, but Farve also set a new NFL record for the most touchdown passes. The most ever. Good job Brett, we all knew you had it in you.

(Harper, a little over a year ago, practicing her touchdown dance.)

*Perhaps the happiest news of all was the fact that, due to the impending record-setting, the Packer game was televised here! This rarely happens. The lack of Packer coverage is one of the hardest things about living in Ohio. I know, it's a rough life.

I suppose I could look this up in your archives, but I thought I remember you posting about tears because Brett was retiring? Maybe I'm getting confused. But glad that your team is doing well. I really don't have strong feelings about the NFL, so go Packers!! But in a couple weeks when the Badgers play the Bucks, we may be at friendly odds. :)

Emily,

You could be thinking of the post from Super Bowl Sunday in February 2006. Or you could be thinking of a post from last January/December (can't remember) for at least the last three years Packers fans have help their breath at the end of the season, waiting to see if Favre will retire. It is very strange to be a starting QB for so many years. . . So yes, we cry at the end of the season, then cheer when he decides to give it one more year! ;-)

umm yeah, we had to go to a sports bar to see the Bears game. in IOWA. Umm. yeah. let's see, the Packers Minnesota game, and the Dallas St Louis game, but not the Illinois-Michigan game.. uhh.. okay. So we got to eat lunch out! And try out a place we'd been wanting to see.

You are so funny!

Does your husband even realize what a "catch" you are in that you like football so much? My poor husband is used to getting some quiet, alone time when any football game crosses our tv screen!

And how about Bret Favre? He should be so honored to have you as one of his biggest fans!

Have fun shopping for some new green and gold!

I like what Laura said... you are a catch for your football fanaticism, for sure.

I knew the Brett Favre stuff was a big deal when Brett (my husband) started raving on about how he's the best QB in the history of the game, etc., etc. And Brett (my husband) is generally not a fan of the Packers (sorry Kels), so I knew it must be BIG NEWS in the sporting world. I said to Brett (my husband), "Kelsey is probably crying in front of her television right now." Was I right?

Erin,

Um, you might be a little bit correct about that. . .

Erin...you were correct. Kelsey was crying when he broke the record.

Kelsey, nice job not mentioning the Lions. The Lions are 3-1 and considering the Lions recent past, this is very impressive.

I have to respond to
Anonymous. Kelsey's sports emotions are in her genes and I will take credit or balme for that! We love our Packers and of course so does Harper (Go packers!) congrats on the Lions fast start also. It could be an exciting year in the NFC Central. Harper your order was placed with the Packer Pro Shop last night!

Love,
Grandpa

Kelsey and I have made agreements on where Harper's sports ties will lie. I have happily agreed to let the Packers be #1 in the NFL as long as the beloved Xavier Muskies are number #1 on the basketball court.

No, no musketeer breath! it's Packers, Brewers, Badgers, Bucks and of course Flyers. As far as I know the 'X' can eliminate the situation with "hanging chads" but that and "marking the spot" are it's too greatest purposes in life!!
