It's Good to be a SAHM, It's Good to be a SAHM...

Yeah, so, I didn't get the job.

Interviewing was a good experience, and the principal I interviewed with told me quite enthusiastically that I had done a good job. He reiterated this sentiment over the phone when telling me he would not be hiring me. They went (surprise, surprise) with someone who had more job experience. I understand this, and yet, I will never have that specific job experience if no one will give me a job! Ahem.

Again, I was disappointed. As my mom gently pointed out to me earlier this summer, I haven't "tried out" for very many things (teams, jobs, scholarships) and not gotten them. Not that there have been so many, but I've been pretty lucky (and had some fortuitous connections) in the past. It may be that my ability to deal with this sort of disappointment (I temporarily sobbed like a baby) is a little underdeveloped.

Harper was disappointed, too. "You didn't get the job?! I really wanted to go to day care!"

Fortunately not working outside the home (or only doing it on the occasional sub day) means I have more time to enjoy Harper's interpretation of questionable musical numbers like this one:

Annie has been good to us, but I feel like we need to branch out, what child-friendly musicals do you suggest?

P.S. Thanks for all the supportive comments here and on facebook - you internet people are nice!

Oh! My! She is cute. And is her hair curly? Why have I never noticed that?

As far as the job...-sigh-...I'm sorry. But at the very least, a path has been chosen (even if it isn't the one you may have wanted). Is there any way you can sub for the librarians to get more experience?

Anyway...hope you adjust back to SAHM thinking quickly ;)

I was going to suggest volunteering for related things to see if it's something you really want to do full /part time or not.

I hear you on the job experience- that is always my biggest complaint when starting out with something new. I had sales experience when I was trying to get into the counseling field...and I actually said that during one interview "I need the opportunity to gain experience in order to have experience". Keep your eyes open for other opportunities- you never know when something might come along (example- my current job). I have had good interview experiences as well and so I don't handle that type of "rejection" very well either. You're not being a baby--I think it's just a clue that you are interested in working within your chosen field. I'll keep my fingers crossed that another door opens for you :)

now that I think about it- I don't know that I've ever interviewed for a job where someone didn't know / recommend me. Maybe once or twice? So just getting in is pretty impressive. Not that it feels like it right now, but there it is anyway.

Oh Kelsey I'm so sorry. But really, it's great you got an interview. Not always easy to get these days.

HUGS. Something will come along that's perfect for you!

Hi - Know your blog through a friend.

As a mother of two very-musical girls, I recommend the following: "Annie Get Your Gun," "The Music Man"(old one, not new one) (both lots of fun and great songs), Sound of Music, and Oklahoma (but skip the scary Judd/Tornado scene). When your daughter gets a bit older, Judy Garland and Doris Day music moves are fun: "Meet me in St. Louis," "The Harvey Girls," "Calamity Jane," "Pajama Game" (my girls are true fans - they even have an personalized autographed photo of Doris Day!)

Sorry that you didn't get the job. It is such a tough choice though, knowing when to go back to work. I know it will be a really tough decision for me. I'm hoping that something will open up for you soon. There is still a chance before school starts up.

If it makes you feel *any* better, the market is nearly IMPOSSIBLE to break into right now. But at least you won't be competing with public librarians as we all start losing our jobs. We don't have teaching degrees! So you are ahead of the game. And the fact that you got a phone call and they actually said this to you is a REALLY good sign. I only call the ones I really wish I had a place for and send letters to the rest through HR.

BTW-- LOTS of opportunity to get volunteer experience at your public library than ever before. Less staff, more volunteers.

The dancing is HILARIOUS. Those are some precious children you've got.

I love you. Hang in there.

Oh, man, sorry about the job. Something better suited for you will come along. ;)

As far as other musicals: Mary Poppins and Annie 2 have been favorites around here. Also, The Sound Of Music. (They don't understand the Nazi connection).

Warning, though, Annie 2 is PAINFUL for me to watch. Soooo cheesy!

Oh, and I should also mention Little House on the Prairie (the tv show). Not a musical, but I bet she would love it.

I think that you are going to have to locked Harper up by the time that she is 12. The song and dance number were hilarious!!!! She definitely has talent. See you in two days.

Love Auntie Shannon

Crap. I'm sorry about the job, I know you were really hoping to get it. :( I guess you and I will be substitute buddies, huh?

That girl of yours is hysterical!!!!! She doesn't need daycare, she needs to go to dance academy!
